The Illinois Commerce Commission has approved a rate increase for Illinois American Water, allowing the company to raise rates by about $110 million, which is 30% less than what was initially requested. This increase is intended to cover costs for improving water systems, such as replacing lead pipes and upgrading pump stations. The ICC also approved a 9.84% return on equity, down from the requested 10.75%. Starting July 1, 2025, the company will expand its low-income discount program, offering a 10-80% monthly bill credit for eligible customers.
