Frequent disinfection of airport surfaces cuts norovirus infections by 83.2%, study finds.

A study from Beijing University of Technology found that disinfecting airport surfaces every two hours can reduce norovirus infections by 83.2%. Without interventions, about 4.6 out of 51,494 travelers get infected, with airport restaurants presenting the highest risk. Handwashing and mask-wearing were less effective, reducing infection risk by 2% and 48%, respectively. Using antimicrobial copper coatings could lower the risk by 15.9% to 99.2%. The research, published in PLOS Computational Biology, offers insights for infection control in airports.
