Canada seeks extension to grant citizenship to "lost Canadians" affected by a 2009 law.

Canadian Immigration Minister Marc Miller has requested a third extension to the December 19th deadline to pass legislation granting citizenship to "lost Canadians." These are individuals who lost citizenship rights due to a 2009 law change under former Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The Ontario Superior Court ruled the 2009 law unconstitutional. The proposed bill would automatically grant citizenship to those affected and create a new test for future access, but it has been stalled due to a debate over a Conservative privilege motion.
