Australian taskforce targets money laundering via cryptocurrency ATMs, now numbering over 1,200.

Australian authorities have launched a taskforce to fight money laundering and financial crimes involving cryptocurrency ATMs. The number of such ATMs in Australia has surged from 200 to over 1,200, making it the third-largest market globally. The taskforce, led by AUSTRAC, aims to ensure that digital currency exchanges comply with anti-money laundering laws. AUSTRAC suspects that some ATMs are being used by Southeast Asian organizations to launder money from Australian criminal groups.
