A teen at a New Zealand boot camp died in a crash that injured 14 others; another participant fled.

A teenager participating in a military-style boot camp pilot in New Zealand died in a multi-vehicle crash on State Highway 1 in Waikato, which also injured 14 others, including tourists. Another boot camp participant absconded following the incident. The crash is under investigation by NZ Police, and Oranga Tamariki has launched a review. The boot camp, aimed at 15-17 year-old repeat offenders, began in July and was set to run for a year. Legislation to send young offenders to such boot camps is expected to become law in March.
