New Zealand orders 14 local authorities to fluoridate water, aiming to cover 60% of the population by 2026.

The Director-General of Health in New Zealand has reconfirmed orders for 14 local authorities to fluoridate their water supplies following a Bill of Rights Act assessment. This decision supports the Ministry's review, which found water fluoridation safe and effective for preventing tooth decay. Seven out of 14 authorities have already started, with others to comply by June 2026, increasing fluoridated water access to about 60% of New Zealanders.
