Nearly 25% of New Zealand benefit recipients may be receiving incorrect payments due to system flaws.

The New Zealand Ministry of Social Development (MSD) reports that nearly one in four beneficiaries may be receiving incorrect benefits, with only 77.6% of entitlements accurately assessed, down from 82.7% last year. The ministry attributes the decline to complex cases and outdated systems. The Te Pae Tawhiti transformation program aims to modernize the systems to improve accuracy. The average overpayment debt also rose to $2948.
