India extends deadline for commission investigating ethnic violence in Manipur to May 2025.

The Indian government has extended the deadline for a commission investigating violence in Manipur to May 20, 2025. The commission, led by former Chief Justice Ajai Lamba, was set up in June to probe the causes of violence that began in May 2023, resulting in at least 258 deaths. It aims to identify any lapses by authorities and assess the effectiveness of administrative measures. The violence stems from clashes between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo ethnic groups.
