Indian Supreme Court fines government for appealing a pension granted to a soldier's widow.
The Supreme Court of India fined the government ₹50,000 for appealing a decision that granted a liberalized pension to the widow of a soldier who died in a counter-terrorism operation in Jammu and Kashmir. The court criticized the government for dragging the widow into a legal battle and ordered them to pay the costs within two months. The widow had initially been denied the pension but was granted it by the Armed Forces Tribunal.
