India nears self-reliance in navigation with its own satellite system, NavIC, reducing foreign dependence.

India is nearing self-reliance in strategic navigation due to NavIC, its GPS-like satellite system. Developed by ISRO, NavIC provides accurate location data over India and a 1,500 km radius. In-SPACe Chairman Pawan Goenka emphasized reducing dependence on foreign systems. Though India is increasing its own communication satellites, it still partly relies on foreign satellites. The Geospatial Data Promotion and Development Committee has identified six key sectors, including civil aviation and mapping, where India needs control over critical technologies.
