Canada commits to establishing a naval reserve in Yukon to strengthen Arctic security.

Yukon Premier Ranj Pillai and Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair signed a commitment to establish a naval reserve presence in Yukon, part of efforts to bolster Arctic security amid concerns over increased foreign activity from China and Russia. The federal government has pledged significant funding to enhance Canada's emergency response and military presence in the North, including a feasibility study for a Yukon-based Arctic security institute. A Royal Canadian Navy team will visit Whitehorse in 2025 to assess the potential for a naval reserve unit.
