Woman sentenced to 5 years for drug-impaired driving that killed retired RCMP officer.

A Port Alberni woman, Belinda Mary Hainsworth, was sentenced to five years in prison for impaired driving that caused a fatal crash on Highway 4, killing retired RCMP officer Gareth Rees and injuring his wife. Hainsworth pleaded guilty, and was found to have methamphetamine in her system. She will serve just under four years, with 398 days' credit for pre-trial custody, and is banned from driving for 10 years post-release.
