Supreme Court upholds Kerala High Court decision invalidating job appointment of MLA's son.

The Supreme Court upheld a 2021 Kerala High Court decision that invalidated the appointment of R. Prasanth, son of a late Communist Party MLA, to a government job. The High Court ruled that MLAs are not government servants due to their five-year elected terms, making the "dying in harness" provision, which allows family members of deceased government employees to receive jobs, inapplicable. The Supreme Court allowed Prasanth to keep his salary and benefits from his time as an Assistant Engineer.
