The State plans to appeal Cathal Crotty's suspended sentence for assaulting Natasha O'Brien, deeming it too lenient.

The State has set January 23, 2023, for an appeal against a three-year suspended sentence given to former soldier Cathal Crotty for assaulting Natasha O'Brien in Limerick. O'Brien was left with a broken nose and bruising after the attack. Crotty, who bragged about the assault on social media, was ordered to pay €3,000 in compensation. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is appealing the sentence, citing it as unduly lenient.
