Ontario introduces new 911 system reducing wait times by 80% and allowing multimedia submissions.

The Peel Regional Police in Ontario have introduced the Next Generation 911 (NG911) system to reduce false 911 calls and wait times. This system includes a caller recognition feature that asks if the call was accidental, leading to an 80% reduction in wait times. Ontario has invested $208 million to upgrade infrastructure, enabling users to send photos, videos, and GPS coordinates to 911 operators. The province aims to complete the NG911 transition by March 2025.
