Algeria's state-owned energy company, Sonatrach, has initiated a $2.33 billion project to boost gas production at the Hassi Rmel field. Dubbed "Phase III Boosting, Stage 2," the project aims to maintain production levels by constructing three compression stations and upgrading the gas collection network. Expected to start in October 2026, the project is anticipated to recover additional reserves of 121 billion cubic meters of dry gas, 7 million tons of condensate, and 3 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas.
