The Rotterdam Community Center in New York had to abandon plans for an affordable housing complex due to a local zoning change. Since its founding three years ago, the center has provided over 101,000 meals and hosted nearly 30,000 guests. Now, it focuses on becoming self-sustaining with its current programs, including a pantry and wellness activities, after losing plans for $3.5 million in revenue from property sales.
