Pope Francis urged Lebanese politicians to swiftly elect a new president to help restore the country's governing institutions. Lebanon has been without a president since October 2022, due to a lack of agreement between the main political blocs. Parliamentary Speaker Nabih Berri has set a presidential election date for January 9 to end the two-year leadership vacuum.
