Métis Nation British Columbia votes to leave the Métis National Council due to governance concerns.
Members of the Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) have voted to leave the Métis National Council (MNC) immediately, following similar steps by groups in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The MNBC cited concerns about the MNC's governance structure, which they believe is no longer equitable, giving "absolute control" to one remaining founding member. MNBC President Walter Mineault noted this decision comes after 40 years of "good work" and several failed reform attempts. The Métis Nation of Alberta, now the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, remains committed to reforming the MNC, which has called for more time to implement changes.
