In the 2024 Irish general election, convicted criminal Gerry "The Monk" Hutch is in strong contention to win a seat in Dublin Central. After 100% of boxes were counted, Hutch is placed fourth with over 9% of the vote. The final seat is expected to be a battle between Hutch and Labour's Marie Sherlock, with transfers from eliminated candidates likely to affect the outcome. Sinn Féin's Mary Lou McDonald leads the poll with around 20%, followed by Fine Gael's Paschal Donohoe and Social Democrats' Gary Gannon.
