Ex-criminal leader Gerard Hutch, known as "The Monk," narrowly missed winning a seat in Ireland's parliament.

Gerard Hutch, known as "The Monk" and alleged leader of a criminal organization, narrowly missed securing a seat in Ireland's parliament. Hutch, acquitted of a 2016 murder charge, had been under arrest in Spain for money laundering but was released on bail. His campaign highlighted community anger over years of drug crime and lack of support.
