Eight foreigners, including 28-year-old British lawyer Simone White, died from methanol poisoning in Laos.

Simone White, a 28-year-old British lawyer, died from methanol poisoning after drinking contaminated vodka at a hostel in Vang Vieng, Laos. Her mother, Sue White, traveled 16 hours to be at her side before she died. Five others, including two Australian teenagers, an American, and two Danish tourists, also died from the poisoning. The Laotian police have detained several hostel employees for questioning. Sue warns travelers to be cautious with drinks, as even a highly educated person can be affected.
