Delta Electricity faces trial over bleach spill that killed marine life in Lake Macquarie, NSW.

Delta Electricity, owner of Vales Point power station, is facing trial for allegedly failing to maintain equipment, leading to a bleach discharge into Lake Macquarie that killed thousands of fish and rays. The New South Wales EPA accuses the company of improper maintenance of its chlorine dosing plant, causing a faulty valve to release concentrated sodium hypochlorite into the lake. If found guilty, Delta could be fined up to $1 million. This is the first EPA prosecution against an NSW coal-fired power station in over a decade. Delta has pleaded not guilty.
