Bay Area issues Spare the Air Alert, prohibiting wood burning in nine counties due to poor air quality.

The Bay Area's Air Quality Management District has issued a Spare the Air Alert for Sunday and Monday due to poor air conditions caused by cold weather and stagnant winds. Wood burning, both indoors and outdoors, is prohibited across nine Bay Area counties. The alert aims to reduce smoke from wood-burning fires, which can be harmful when trapped by a high-pressure system. Exceptions are made for those who rely solely on wood-burning stoves for heat. Burning garbage and plastics is also banned. Citizens can receive updates or file complaints through various channels provided by the district.
