Healthcare workers in Kenya consider a strike due to unpaid salaries and welfare issues, despite partial government pay.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) plans a conference on Nov. 30, potentially leading to a nationwide strike in December due to unpaid salaries and welfare concerns. The government has released Ksh965 million to pay arrears and salaries for interns, including nurses, clinical officers, medical officers, and pharmacists. However, KMPDU reports financial strain, including two deaths and four suicide attempts among interns. Talks to resolve the issues and implement a return-to-work formula signed in May are ongoing. The Kenya Union for Clinical Officers also threatens a strike on Dec. 23 over exclusions from health insurance services.
