Former Nigerian Head of State Yakubu Gowon revealed that he wrote a letter to military dictator Sani Abacha pleading for the life of Olusegun Obasanjo, who was arrested in 1995 on charges of plotting a coup. Obasanjo was imprisoned but later freed after Abacha's death in 1998. Gowon shared this information during a religious festival organized by the Plateau State Government.
