England's smart motorways shut down for tech maintenance from Dec 2-4, affecting detection systems.

England's smart motorways will be temporarily shut down starting tonight for technology maintenance. From 10 PM to 3 AM and during specific daytime hours from December 2 to 4, vehicle detection and electronic sign systems will be offline on motorways like the M23, M25, and others in the East region. National Highways has set up additional measures such as Traffic Officer patrols and CCTV monitoring. The RAC calls for wider installation of quicker-detecting 'stationary vehicle detection' systems, currently only available on 18% of motorways.
