Commununist leader Bipin C Babu defects to BJP, citing loss of secular character in his former party.

Alappuzha's prominent communist leader, Bipin C Babu, has defected to the BJP, criticizing his former party, the CPI(M), for losing its secular character and becoming dominated by communal forces. Babu, a former vice-president of the district panchayat, cited internal factional tensions within the CPI(M) as reasons for his switch. BJP state president K Surendran sees this move as an opportunity for the BJP to expand in traditionally communist strongholds.
