American lugers Chevonne Forgan and Sophie Kirkby claimed gold in the season-opening women's doubles luge World Cup, marking the first time in nearly seven years that the US has won a World Cup luge gold medal abroad. Emily Sweeney also secured silver in the women's singles event. Kirkby wore a message on her glove honoring her late father, who would have been proud of her achievement.
