WHO declares mpox outbreak still a global health emergency, urges stronger national actions.

The World Health Organization (WHO) held a meeting on November 22, 2024, to assess the 2024 mpox (monkeypox) surge. Despite some progress, cases and geographic spread continue to rise, particularly due to clade Ib infections. The committee stressed the need for stronger national commitments and a unified response. The WHO Director-General agreed that the outbreak remains a public health emergency of international concern and issued revised recommendations.
