Volkswagen India hit with $1.4 billion tax evasion notice over alleged misclassification of imports.

The Indian government has issued a $1.4 billion tax evasion notice to Volkswagen India, accusing the company of misclassifying imported car components to avoid higher taxes. The notice claims that since 2012, the company should have paid $2.35 billion in taxes but only paid $981 million. Volkswagen India is now required to explain its actions and could face additional penalties up to $2.8 billion if found guilty.
