Tommy McQuaker sentenced to 12 months for attacking police at a protest against asylum seekers.

Tommy McQuaker, 29, was sentenced to at least 12 months in prison for his role in a violent protest outside a Tamworth hotel housing asylum seekers. The protest involved around 300 people attacking police with fireworks, petrol bombs, and beer cans on August 4. McQuaker, who threw beer cans, was bitten by a police dog. Judge John Gosling described the incident as a "siege" with serious violence and racist abuse. McQuaker pleaded guilty to violent disorder and will serve the rest of his 30-month sentence on license, with a five-year criminal behavior order.
