Reducing daily salt intake by a teaspoon can lower blood pressure as effectively as medication, study finds.

A recent study by Northwestern Medicine and other institutions found that reducing daily salt intake by one teaspoon can lower systolic blood pressure by about six millimeters of mercury, similar to the effect of blood pressure medication. This reduction can benefit about 70-75% of people, whether they're already on medication or not. The blood pressure drop occurs within a week and is effective for those with normal and high blood pressure alike.
