Volkswagen sells its Chinese factory amid human rights concerns in Xinjiang.

German automaker Volkswagen announced it will sell its operations in China's Xinjiang region, due to economic reasons and amid human rights concerns. The company will sell its factory in Urumqi and a test track in Turpan to a Chinese firm, Shanghai Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (SMVIC). Human rights groups have accused China of forced labor and other abuses in the region. Volkswagen has maintained it found no evidence of such issues at its facilities.
