A recent study published in PLOS ONE shows that traffic noise can increase stress and anxiety, canceling out the calming effects of nature sounds like bird songs. Researchers found that volunteers had lower stress levels when listening to natural sounds alone, compared to when traffic noise was added. The study suggests that reducing traffic speeds in cities could help preserve natural soundscapes and improve mental health.
