RCMP in BC will deploy 300 body cameras by December 3 to boost transparency and reduce complaints.

The RCMP in British Columbia will start using body-worn cameras on December 3, beginning in six communities including Cranbrook. Around 300 cameras will be deployed initially, with a goal of equipping 3,000 cameras across 144 detachments by early 2026. The cameras aim to enhance transparency, accountability, and public trust, while also improving evidence gathering and reducing public complaints. Each camera costs $3,000, and the public can request access to recordings under the Privacy Act or Access to Information Act.
