Polish woman Monika Nawrat died by suicide in Irish prison within 24 hours of her admittance.

A vulnerable Polish woman, Monika Nawrat, died by suicide less than 24 hours after being admitted to an Irish women's prison in 2019 due to her inability to pay a €100 bail. Nawrat had a history of mental health issues. In response, Irish authorities are developing a formal written protocol for prisoner handovers to improve communication and prevent similar tragedies.
