Eskom threatens to cut power to South African towns due to a R330 million municipal debt.

Eskom, South Africa's power utility, plans to disconnect bulk electricity supply to the Tokologo Local Municipality in the Free State due to an unpaid debt of about R330 million. This would affect towns like Boshof and Seretse with daily power cuts starting January 31, 2025, if the municipality fails to pay. The last payment was R150,000 in October 2021. Eskom has invited written representations from affected parties by January 6, 2025, deciding the final action by January 16, 2025.
