Construction of HMS Sheffield, a £840 million advanced Type 26 frigate, began in Glasgow.

Construction of HMS Sheffield, an advanced Type 26 frigate for the Royal Navy, began in Glasgow with a steel-cutting ceremony. Part of an £840 million project, HMS Sheffield is the fifth of eight ships in the £4.2 billion program, designed to replace the current Type 23 fleet. The Type 26 frigates will support thousands of jobs and are among the world's most advanced warships, with roles including protecting the Royal Navy's Continuous At Sea Deterrent and supporting international missions. The first ships are expected to enter service by 2028, with all construction completed by the mid-2030s.
