China's drug price negotiation program has saved patients over 880 billion yuan, or about $112.4 billion, by negotiating lower drug prices and expanding medical insurance coverage. The National Healthcare Security Administration added 91 new drugs to the national medical insurance list, bringing the total to 3,159, with a focus on chronic, rare, and pediatric diseases. The average price of newly included drugs will drop by 63%, reducing patient costs by over 50 billion yuan in 2025. The new list takes effect January 1, 2025.
