Northern Ontario's Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and Township of Ignace have been chosen to host Canada's deep geological repository for nuclear waste, a $26 billion project. After a decade-long selection process, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization announced the decision, which includes regulatory approval and construction phases totaling up to 20 years, followed by 50 to 60 years of waste loading. The project aims to ensure safe, long-term waste management while creating local jobs and addressing environmental concerns.
