Over 1,500 Kerala officials fraudulently claimed a social welfare pension meant for the poor.

Over 1,500 government employees in Kerala, including high-ranking officers and professors, were found fraudulently receiving a monthly Rs 1,600 social welfare pension intended for the poor and elderly. Finance Minister K N Balagopal ordered strict disciplinary actions and the recovery of the funds with interest. The state provides this pension to about 6.2 million beneficiaries.
