In 2024, 17% of New Zealand employers on the Parental Leave Register improved their parental leave policies, while only 1% reduced them. The register, which covers data from 307 employers representing about one in six employed New Zealanders, shows most improvements included additional primary carer and partner leave. Despite these improvements, New Zealand still lacks paid partner's leave and has one of the least affordable childcare systems globally.
