Lufthansa Cargo and Maersk use 400 metric tons of SAF, aiming to cut CO2 emissions by 1,200 metric tons by 2024.

Lufthansa Cargo and Maersk are partnering to reduce airfreight emissions by using 400 metric tons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by the end of 2024, expected to cut CO2 emissions by at least 1,200 metric tons. SAF, made from biogenic residues like used cooking oil, can reduce CO2 emissions by about 80% compared to conventional fuel. This move supports Lufthansa's goal to halve its CO2 emissions by 2030 and aims for carbon neutrality by 2050, while Maersk targets net-zero emissions by 2040.
