India's HAL in Russia to sign deal for 240 engines, reducing fighter jet import reliance.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is in Russia to sign a deal for manufacturing 240 AL-31FP Aero Engines for India's Su-30MKI fighter jets, aiming to reduce reliance on imports. The engines will be made by HAL’s Koraput Division over the next eight years. HAL's Chairman, Dr. D. K. Sunil, is also exploring options for the Tejas Mk1A fighter due to delays in F-404 engine deliveries from GE Aerospace, though a full engine switch is unlikely.
