Greenville police officer Cooper Dawson was fatally shot and killed on Monday night while pursuing a suspect following an attempted traffic stop. The suspect ambushed Dawson in a wooded area, shooting him multiple times. Despite his injuries, Dawson returned fire and struck the suspect, who is now hospitalized. The suspect's identity and condition have not been released. Greenville Police Chief Chris Smith expressed condolences and requested support for Dawson's family and the community. This is the first Greenville police officer to die in the line of duty in over a century.
