Former Irish Minister of Education Gemma Hussey, who was the first female to hold that position and Fine Gael's first female Cabinet minister, died at 86. Hussey, a trailblazer for women's rights and education reform, entered politics in 1977 after a business career. She held several ministerial roles until 1989 and continued advocating for women's issues post-retirement. Taoiseach Simon Harris praised her contributions to women's rights and Ireland’s potential in the EU.
