STI rates, especially for gonorrhea and chlamydia, have sharply increased among adults over 55 in the U.S. and Australia.

STI rates are rising among people over 40, with gonorrhea and chlamydia rates more than doubling among those 55 and older in the US from 2012 to 2022. Similar trends are seen in Australia. This increase is linked to changing sex practices and hidden health needs in older adults, many of whom belong to the "boomer" generation. There is a need for better sexual health policies and conversations between healthcare providers and older patients to address these issues.
