The number of single women undergoing IVF or donor insemination treatment in the UK has tripled over the past decade, rising from 1,400 in 2012 to 4,800 in 2022. This increase reflects a growing trend among single women and female same-sex couples seeking fertility treatments. However, funding for IVF is less common for these groups compared to heterosexual couples. The HFEA reports that single patients and female same-sex couples had lower rates of NHS funding for their first IVF treatment in 2022.
