Real estate and betting ads were found most misleading in India, with ASCI reviewing thousands of complaints.

The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) found that real estate and betting ads were the most misleading and illegal between April and September 2024. ASCI reviewed 4,016 complaints and investigated 3,031 ads, with 98% needing changes. Real estate ads, making up 34% of cases, and illegal betting ads, at 29%, were the biggest violators. ASCI also noted a reduction in average turnaround time from 30 to 18 days. In Maharashtra, 628 developers were penalized with ₹88.90 lakh for non-compliance with the MahaRERA Act.
